This Week in Orange Politics: March 23-30

Solid waste financing will be the topic this Thursday when all of Orange County’s governing boards meet in Chapel Hill. That meeting will be immediately followed by a joint meeting of the county commissioners and Chapel Hill Town Council, where Rogers Road and a potential bond referendum will be among the topics up for discussion.

The Carrboro Alderfolks will be discussion the use of body cameras by police officers, while the Chapel Hill Town Council takes on community development block grants and Obey Creek. The county commissioners will meet with our state legislative delegation, while the Hillsborough Town Board will hear Mayor Tom Stevens’s state of the town address.

The county school board will discuss filling its current vacancy, while its Chapel Hill-Carrboro counterpart is own break.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

• Regular Meeting: Tuesday, March 24th, 7:30 pm @ Carrboro Town Hall
  • There will be a public hearing on the potential use of body cameras by the Carrboro Police Department (OP will live tweet the hearing).
• Assembly of Governments Meeting: Thursday, March 26, 7 pm @ Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill
  • The county commissioners and all three town boards will meet together to discuss solid waste finance options

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

• Business Meeting: Monday, March 23, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • The Council will hold a public forum on preliminary Community Development Block Grant funding for 2015-16.
  • The Council will also consider a proposal for the use of local affordable housing funding.
  • The Council will consider endorsing a bond referendum and a plan for a parking lot on Rosemary Street.
• Special Meeting: Wednesday, March 25, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the Obey Creek development agreement.
• Assembly of Governments Meeting: Thursday, March 26, 7 pm @ Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill
  • The county commissioners and all three town boards will meet together to discuss solid waste finance options
• Joint Meeting with Chapel Hill Town Council: Thursday, March 26, Immediately Following the Assembly of Governments Meeting @ Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill
  • The boards will get an update on the Rogers Road project
  • The boards will hear about where we are in the bond referendum project

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

• There is no meeting scheduled this week. The next meeting is scheduled for April 9.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

• Monthly Work Session: Monday, March 23, 7pm @ the Whitted Human Services Center’s main meeting room
  • The meeting will start with a State of the Town address by Mayor Tom Stevens
• Assembly of Governments Meeting: Thursday, March 26, 7 pm @ Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill
  • The county commissioners and all three town boards will meet together to discuss solid waste finance options

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Legislative Breakfast: Monday, March 23, 7pm
  • The Board will meet with Orange County’s state legislative delegation to discuss the board’s priorities for the current General Assembly sessio
• Assembly of Governments Meeting: Thursday, March 26, 7 pm @ Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill
  • The county commissioners and all three town boards will meet together to discuss solid waste finance options
• Joint Meeting with Chapel Hill Town Council: Thursday, March 26, Immediately Following the Assembly of Governments Meeting @ Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill
  • The boards will get an update on the Rogers Road project

  • The Board will discuss the next steps on filling its vacant seat and review relevant district policy
  • The Board will review the implementation of its strategic plan
