Endorsement lists
I thought it would be interesting to compare and contrast the endorsement lists of both leading Mayoral candidates.
There were definitely a couple of surprises for me on Czajkowski's list, but there are also the expected developer and real estate types as well as some registered Republicans.

Heroes
Any (this is probably the 1st) time I'm on a list with Fred Brooks, I must be living right. Also one of the best teachers I ever had, Mr Kiger. And a man I've seen sleep all night in a kitchen chair tipped back on 2 legs, Doug Mitchell.
Not my kind of hero
Mythical Man Month aside, Matt Czajkowski donor Fred Brooks is a major GOP contributor who gave over $10,000 to Republican campaigns in the last election cycle (Huckabee, McCain, Dole, RNC, NRSC, NRCC, etc). He might be a hero to computer science, but I'd rather avoid being on any political list that includes him.

I was once on a list with them - Partners for Public Education. Endorsing a cause not a candidate seems to be the way to go. That said, I had an Ayn Rand type deny me work over it. I guess I hope we are a little better than that here in Chapel Hill when this is all over.

One more honest curiousity thing before I go to bed cursing the damn Yankees: What's the reason candidates (Mark here, Penny before him) include non-CH voters in their lists? I see Penny's young son Mikko in here specifically.

You are confusing supporters (people who donated to your campaign) with endorsements, (people who express approval publically of your campaign)

Then I don't want to live in that world. My only public endorsement is the Smith Cyclones, but if my mom were running for something, I'd endorse her too.

All of the candidates seem to do this. What's weirder is that Matt's list specifically identifies each person as from Chapel Hill, but some very obviously are not. For example Katrina Ryan lives in Carrboro, and I think your computer science hero lives in Durham.

Rosemary is on Matt's list while her boss D.R. Bryan is on Mark's list. Roger Perry wrote a letter for Mark that was in the paper but he is not on the list.So....the developers of Southern Village and Meadowmont (and East 54) support Mark. Anyone notice the name Milton Cooke on Matt Cz's endorsement list? This is the person who Matt sold his house to in 2005 and then bought it back in 2007 for 100K more, while still living in it. Friends helping friends out.

I don't understand
I don't understand endorsements. Think for yourself, sayeth I. But I was surprised at how many endorsements there were in the Sun CHN. How is it that someone endorse someone else anyway? Do you just go to their website and sign up. There was one person I noticed on an endorsement list in the Sun N&O that lives in Greensboro, albeit works in CH.
