It's the season for candidate forums. Yesterday, the Orange County Democratic Party and the Orange County Democratic Women held their forum for District 1 and at-large Candidates for the Orange County Board of Commissioners. The event was held at the Lake Hogan Farms club house. We live-tweeted the forum.
OrangePolitics will be holding our fifth-annual live online candidate forums for the upcoming elections for Chapel Hill Town Council, Chapel Hill Mayor, Hillsborough Town Board, and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education.
I'm going to be a little awkward. There is already a thread about the recent Carrboro and Chapel Hill Police Forums. I will be linking this post to that thread. But I want to set out (at boring length) what I have been advocating for since those Forums. And I don't want to clutter up the entirety of that other thread with my meanderings (as fascinating as I know you will find them!).
As the above link to the forums make clear, a number of us in Carrboro want the establishment of a Citizen's Task Force, to be given the responsibility thoroughly to review policing in Carrboro, and, if thought necessary, make recommendations. I have my own thoughts about what I would like such a Task Force to address. But my main purpose is to help to create the space where citizens of Carrboro may have the opportunity to ensure that the policing approach in their community has their consent.
I set out in more detail here why I think we need a Citizen's Task Force.
OrangePolitics will be holding our fourth-annual live online candidate forums for the upcoming primary elections for the Orange County Board of Commissioners, the Orange County Sheriff and the Orange County School Board, as well as for the special election for the Carrboro Board of Aldermen.
OrangePolitics will be holding our third-annual live online candidate forums for the upcoming elections for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education, the Carrboro Board of Aldermen, the Chapel Hill Town Council, and the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners, as well as an informal Conversation With the Mayors, which will include the candidates in all three of the county's uncontested mayoral races.
