This Week in Orange Politics: October 13-19

It’s another busy week for Orange County’s public bodies. The Carrboro Alderfolks will consider a new mixed-use zoning classification, while their Chapel Hill counterpart will take action on making the Rogers Road area part of the ETJ. The Hillsborough Town Board will consider its noise ordinance, while the county commissioners will hold a work session cover community centers, water and more before holding a wide-ranging joint meeting with Carrboro on everything from solid waste to transit to the new southern branch library.

The two county school boards will also meet, separately though, and cover an Exceptional Children Program, a superintendent search and more.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

• Regular Meeting: Tuesday, October 14th, 7pm @ Carrboro Town Hall
  • The Board will make appointments to the Recreation and Parks Commission
  • The Board will discuss a possible mixed-use zoning classification
• Joint Meeting with Carrboro Aldermen: Thursday, October 16th @ Southern Human Services Center
  • The two boards will discuss the Southern Branch Library
  • The two boards will get updates on the Solid Waste Advisory Group, the bu and rail investment program and a possible bond referendum

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

• Business Meeting: Wednesday, October 15th, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • On Wednesday, the Council will consider, among other things, taking action on making the Rogers Rd area part of the ETJ and whether or not to exercise an option for Council to review the Village Plaza Apartments proposal in Ephesus-Fordham.

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Work Session: Thursday, October 16th, 7pm @ Lincoln Center
  • The Board will hold a work session this Thursday to discuss and review the Exceptional Children Program.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

• Regular Meeting, Monday, October 13th, 7pm @Town Barn
  • The Board will consider the town’s noise ordinance
  • The board will conduct interviews for tourism and planning board vacancies

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Work Session: Tuesday, October 14th, 7pm @ The Richard Whitted Meeting Facility
  • The Board will get updates on the Rogers Road and Cedar Grove Community Center projects
  • The Board will discuss the county’s allocation of water from Jordan Lake
  • The Board will get a status report on the redesign of the county website
  • The Board will set its calendar for the next year
• Joint Meeting with Carrboro Aldermen: Thursday, October 16th @ Southern Human Services Center
  • The two boards will discuss the Southern Branch Library
  • The two boards will get updates on the Solid Waste Advisory Group, the bu and rail investment program and a possible bond referendum

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Regular Meeting: Monday, October 13th, 7pm @ Central Office Boardroom
  • The Board will have discussions with representatives from the North Carolina School Board Association on conducting a search for its next superintendent
  • The Board will receive three scenarios for the development of its 2014-2015 Local Current Expense Budget
