This Week in Orange Politics: September 14-19

It'll be a busy week across Orange County this week. The Carrboro Alderfolks will discuss bicycle-friendliness and the Lloyd Farm propery mediation process, while the Chapel Hill Town Council will get an update on UNC-related development. Both school boards will review the student performance data recently released by the state, while the Hillsborough Town Board will get an update on the Colonial Inn. The county commmissioners will meet with the Mebane City Council on public transportation and the Buckhorn EDD, and will get an update on Southern Branch Library in a serperate meeting.

CHALT and the Sierra Club/Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce/WCHL will hold candidate forums for Chapel Hill candidates.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

• Business Meeting: September 15, 2015, at 7:30 pm, Carrboro Town Hall
  • The Carrboro Bicycle Coalition will make a presentation on preparing the town for gold-level certification.
  • The Board will receive an update on the Lloyd Farm property mediation process.

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

• Business Meeting: Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at 7 pm, Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • The Council will receive a presentation on the Main Campus Development Report and Revised University Project Review Schedule.
  • The Council will consider authorizing the town manager to negotiate and execute amendments to the memorandum of understanding with East West Partners concerning the redevelopment of the Hamilton Rd fire station.
  • The Council will also consider amending the LUMO regarding representation for residents of the joint planning area (JPA) on the planning commission and board of adjustment.

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Business Meeting: Thursday, September 17, 2015, at 7 pm, Lincoln Center
  • The Board will consider recommending approval of the 2015-16 budget.
  • The Board will also review the 2014 accountability report.

HILLSBOROUGH BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Business Meeting: Monday, September 14, 2015, at 7 pm, The Whitted Building
  • The Board will hear an appeal of the Fire Marshal’s Order of Evacuation of the former Colonial Inn and an update from the Owners Group of the former Colonial Inn.
  • The Board will discuss a noise issue related to tractor trailers.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Regular Meeting: Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at 7 pm, Southern Human Services Center
  • The Board will get an update on the Southern Branch Library siting criteria process
  • Members of the public plan to speak on the upcoming bond referendum (see Mark Marcoplos's post on the subject)
• Joint Meeting with the Mebane City Council: Thursday, September 17, 2015, at 6 pm, The Whitted Building
  • The boards will get an update on Orange Public Transportation's serivce
  • The boards will discuss the Buckhorn Economic Development District

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Business Meeting: Monday, September 14, 2015, at 7 pm, Central Office Board Room
  • The Board will get a report from the Family Success Alliance
  • The Board will review student achievement and school performance data recently released by the state

MISCELLANEOUS

• CHALT Chapel Hill Town Council Candidate Forum, 7 pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Seymor Senior Center
• Sierra Club/Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce/WCHL Forum for Chapel Hill Town Council and Mayoral Candidates, 7 pm on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Chapel Hill Town Hall
