Pundit of the year

Think you know what's going to happen on Tuesday? Here's your chance to prove it: OrangePolitics 2005 Election Predictions Contest

Anyone who predicts the winners correctly will be announced here (unless requested otherwise) and whoever comes closest to predicting the ORDER of the winners will be named the Pundit of the Year.

You can play anonymously, but don't you want to take credit for your analytical prowess? Give it a shot! (Remember: vote for who you think will win, not who you want to win.)

2005 Voter Guide

Well this has been a learning experience for me. Collecting and compiling just a little bit of information about the candidates was a lot more work than I expected. What I have so far is only what candidates provided for me, or information that was very easy to find (like endorsements).

I tried to e-mail all of them, but forgot a few in the first round (and don't have e-mail for all of them in spite of asking for it by snail mail). Any candidates who I missed, please contact me ASAP and accept my apologies. I still need to take pictures of a few more yard signs.

Volunteer sprints

Announcing OrangePolitics Volunteer Sprints!* We are looking for volunteers to help us build a better Election Guide. If you are interested in researching candidates and issues or building online tools to share election information, please consider helping out.

Some of the things we might work on include:

  • Compiling information about each candidate possibly including: endorsements, campaign spending, candidate photos, and whatever else we think of
  • Comparative charts and other analysis
  • Dynamic maps (like this for example)
  • Post-election analysis of donations, and results by precinct

If these sound interesting, or if you have a better idea, please sign up for the OP Volunteer list.

Also tonight...

As noted by the Daily Tar Heel, it's OrangePolitics' second birthday, and we will celebrating in Hell. They will be serving a special beverage called the OP - it's mostly orange but it's got some red in it. ;-)

You can come either during or after the Sierra Club forum (which will be televised at the bar), but there is not likely to be Internet access, so you may want to stay above ground to witness Tom's unstoppable liveblogging, round 2.

(Anyone who wants to come but is not 21, get in touch with me before 7 pm and I will see what we can do.)

Calendar

I have added a new calendar of events to the site. I would like to keep it limited to mostly just election-related events for now. You can find a link to it near the top of the side bar to the right.

Please contact us if you know of additional events we should add, and include a link or as much information as you can find.
