I’m the chair of the Board of Elections and wanted to clarify some of the discussion that has gone on about early voting:

This is being released to the press today:
Jim White, Chair of the Orange County Democratic Party and Bill
Knight, Chair of the Orange County Republican Party issued the
following joint statement today:
Last week a mailing was sent to residents of Chapel Hill that was
supposedly from an organization calling itself “CHC PAC.” There is
apparently no such political action committee registered with the
Orange County Board of Elections and no contact information or mailing
address on the postcard. The postcard is designed to look like a
mailer supporting mayoral candidate Mark Kleinschmidt, and contains
attacks on mayoral candidate Matt Czajkowski.

Matt Czajkowski criticized the OCDP in the October 31, 2009
News & Observer:
Czajkowski lamented ... an Orange County
Democratic Party voter drive when Kleinschmidt is the only Democrat in
the nonpartisan mayor's race. "How do you put a value on the resources
of the Orange County Democratic Party?" said Czajkowski, an
unaffiliated voter. "This is all supposed to be how Chapel Hill leads
when it comes to democracy?"

In response, I sent the following letter to the editor:
