The Orange Unified Transportation Board has initiated a survey about transportation in Orange County. More information is below.
We need YOUR input! Orange County is working with the NC Department of
Transportation, the Triangle Area Rural Planning Organization, the
Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the
Orange Unified Transportation Board to create a Comprehensive
Transportation Plan (CTP) for the County. It will recommend
improvements for highways, public transportation, and bicycle and
pedestrian facilities over the next 25 to 30 years. Although the CTP
does not schedule or fund improvements, it is an essential tool in
guiding the safe and effective use of the County's transportation
system. The purpose of this survey is to obtain your opinions and
identify transportation issues that are important to the citizens,
businesses, and officials of Orange County.
The Special Transit Advisory Commission (STAC) is made up of citizens and transportation specialists from throughout the Triangle area. The Capital Area MPO (CAMPO) and the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro MPO (DCHC-MPO) have formed this advisory board to come up with a new set of transit and fixed-guideway (rail) plans to bring more and better transit options to the Triangle region. The report, with recommendations and some terrific maps of the options, is available for download from the
Regional Transit Infrastructure Blueprint page.
I saw a presentation on this report last night from Triangle J Council of Governments (TJCOG), and I can't wait for a chance to read it carefully. I look forward to hearing your comments and questions as well, and would be happy to forward them to TJCOG, which is one of the report-generating entities which worked with the STAC in generating studies and gathering data.
Disclaimer: I'm married to one of the Town employees who has been doing the work mentioned here.
Regular users of the Bolin Creek Greenway will have noticed that a lot of tree work and clearing of invasive species (such as privet) has been done lately along the trail and in the woods. The tree work has been for removal or felling of dead, dying, or heavily damaged trees, many of which have been left to decay naturally in the woods.
At least one councilman has expressed severe reservations about the work, calling it senseless, indiscriminate, and a mis-step.
This notice came from Chapel Hill's eNews just a little while ago:
