Earlier this week, Orange County Board of Commissioners vice chair Bernadette Pelissier announced that she will not seek reelection next year after two terms on the board.

My press release just sent out:
I have been involved in my beloved community Orange County community for several decades. For the past 7 years I have had the honor to serve as a county commissioner with an extraordinary group of elected colleagues, county employees, interested and engaged residents and volunteers.
Many of you know that I have been a long-time advocate for agriculture, farmers, and local food. Little did I know how my life would change when my husband and I bought a farm in Cedar Grove last year. This has given me the opportunity to become a farmer and join in with my children in this effort. Having just turned 65, I want to fulfill a dream I never thought possible before now.
Though it has been difficult, after much thought, I have decided not to run for re-election in 2016.
I am so grateful to live in a community with so many engaged residents and I have no doubt that I will continue to serve the public in some capacity. Thanks to all for your support and shared wisdom.
First elected to the commissioners in 2008, Pelissier had previously served on the Orange County Planning Board, Commission for the Environment, Special Transit Advisory Committee, Shaping Orange County Future Task Force and the Carolina North Leadership Advisory Council. She also served as chair of the Orange Chatham Sierra Club Group and as chair of the OWASA Board.
Filing for the next Board of County Commissioners election runs from runs December 1 through December 21, and xext year’s primary, which will include the commissioners' race, will be held March 15. What do you think is in the store for the next election? Who do you think will run?
