This Week in Orange Politics: February 9-15

It’s another busy week across Orange County, with all of the county’s public bodies holding at least one meeting.

The Carrboro Alderfolks will talk “green” cemeteries while the Chapel Hill Town Council will have a special meeting on Obey Creek and host an initial public forum on how to use Community Development Block Grants. The county commissioners will discuss mandating that county’s contractors pay a living wage to get government business, while the Hillsborough Town Board will consider an economic development grant application.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board will hold its annual retreat, while its counterpart for the county will review the district’s 2013-14 report card.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

• Business Meeting: Tuesday, February 10, 7:30pm @ Carrboro Town Hall
  • The Board will discuss developing ‘green cemeteries’.
  • The Board will discuss the sale of the condo above Acme Restaurant formerly owned by Fleet Feet.
  • The Board will take public comment on budget priorities.
• Board Retreat: Sunday, February 15, 11:00 am-4:00 pm @ the Rizzo Conference Center

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

• Business Meeting: Monday, February 9, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • Council will open an initial public forum on the use of 2015-2016 Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnership Funds.
  • Council will also receive a work session presentation from staff on the proposed CVS Pharmacy at Ram’s Plaza, the second Ephesus-Fordham form-based code application received by the town.
• Special Meeting: Thursday, February 12, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • Council will hold its next special meeting on the Obey Creek development agreement this day

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Board Retreat: Monday, February 9, 8am-4pm @ Hampton Inn in Carrboro
  • The Board will hold its retreat this week. The Board’s next regularly scheduled meeting is March 5.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

• Business Meeting: Monday, February 9th. 7pm @ the Town Barn
  • The Board will discuss a grant application for economic development assistance funds for the Cornelius Street Corridor.
  • The Board will receive an update on Hillsborough’s first Citizen’s Academy

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Work Session: Tuesday, February 10, 7pm @ Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill
  • The Board will discuss requiring contractors that do business with the county to pay a living wage
  • The Board will review various procedural policies

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Regular Meeting: Monday, February 9th, 7pm @ Central Office Boardroom, Hillsborough
  • The Board will discuss its strategic goals
  • The Board will review the district’s 2013-14 report card

MISCELLANEOUS

• On Tuesday, February 10, at 5pm, at Town Hall, the Town of Chapel Hill will host Chris Estes, CEO of the National Housing Conference, for a presentation on national and state housing trends as a part of its Affordable Housing workshop series. Full details.
