Carrboro Names New Economic and Community Development DirectorAnnette Stone, a native of New Bern, North Carolina, has been appointed by Town Manager Steve Stewart to the position of Economic and Community Development Director for the Town of Carrboro. Stone has 20 years of local government experience, of which the past twelve (12) have been spent as a City Planner in New Bern. In that role she works with local business owners and investors, serves as staff liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission, works with the Tourism Development Authority and Downtown Business Association on downtown improvements and administers and implements grants and other special projects. Her prior experience includes administering Community Development Block Grants and Housing Finance Agency programs. She embraces Carrboro’s approach to economic development which includes promoting a local living economy by supporting existing local businesses, encouraging local entrepreneurs in the creation and expansion of businesses, and encouraging green jobs and green buildings. She believes these are values of a desirable community where the creative class wants to live, work and play. Ms. Stone has a BS degree in Urban and Regional Planning from East Carolina University, has completed 18 hours towards a Masters of Public Administration degree and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. She will begin work on March 31, 2011.
