On October 12, Holden Thorp will be installed as the University's 10th chancellor - this will be an historic and festive event and I hope the OP community will attend.  Also wanted to be sure you knew about Chancellor Thorp's blog of his statewide tour which you can see at www.unc.edu/chan.  Here's the email I just sent with all the details:
Dear Friends and
Neighbors:
On University Day, Sunday,
October 12, Chancellor Holden Thorp will be installed as Carolina's 10th
Chancellor.  This is a community celebration and I hope that you will come to
campus for this special event.

The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. on
Polk
Place (the quad between South Building and Wilson Library) with a
reception afterwards. Free parking with shuttle service will be available from
the Dean
Smith Center beginning at 2
p.m.  <!--break-->

If you’d like to come early, the UNC
Symphony band, the UNC Wind Ensemble and the Carolina Choir will begin at 2:40
p.m. After the concert, faculty, students, staff, alumni visiting dignitaries
and leaders will process.

If rain is forecast, an announcement
will be made in advance about moving to the Dean Smith
Center.  You can find more details at www.unc.edu/chan/installation.

Leading up to his installation,
Chancellor Thorp has been on the road in North Carolina visiting public schools and
many of the UNC system chancellors.  The
tour began on September 29 at Chapel
Hill High School and
will conclude on Monday, October 6, in Fayetteville with a stop at his alma mater, Terry Sanford High
School.
Chancellor Thorp is blogging about his state tour and you can read his
entries and comment at holden.unc.edu. [URL corrected by OP.]

If you are a contact person for your
neighborhood or community group, please share this email with your members or
others who may be interested.

I hope you will join us for the
installation and the University’s 215th birthday – and yes, there
will be cake!

Best,
Linda

Chancellor blog
I think it's great that the Chancellor is blogging - especially because he has the strength and character to post self effacing things like this picture of him as a Rubik's Cube champion in high school: http://holden.unc.edu/2008/10/day-5-friends-and-pharmacy-at-ecsu/ That human touch is what blogging is all about.
I hope though, that he will continue the blog after his formal installation. I am especially interested in hearing his reflections on the task of leading the University administration and working with the community as we evolve together.
