I know this is OrangePolitics.org, but your neighbor to the south wants to pollute your quality of life with more traffic, more pollution and big box goliaths sucking retail out of Carrboro and Chapel Hill. Chatham County progressives need your help to oust the men who are selling off the county to any developer who dangles promises of tax revenue in front of their frothy mouths.
We barely survived the last four years under Bunkey Morgan, the car wash king and bag man for Briar Chapel. Now is our chance to show him and his ilk the curb.
The Chatham Coalition, a PAC that succeeded two years ago in electing candidates into office, is looking north for help in making a clean sweap of politicians who engage in back-room deals with wealthy landowners, believe Cary is the economic model of our future, and turn a blind eye to our streams and rivers turning brown with silt.
May 2 is the Primary - and for all intents and purposes, Election Day in Chatham. Three great candidates are challenging the status quo: George Lucier, a retired scientist and present day environmentalist; Tom Vanderbeck, a well-known activist in the progressive community; and Carl Thompson, a former commissioner and educator with deep roots in the African-American community.
The tide can really turn this time in Chatham, and this is a one shot deal. Please help with your donations of time and money. We need volunteers to help canvass neighborhoods in north Chatham and money to print mailers, flyers and other campaign activities. Bunkey has funded his campaign with $50,000 and is quietly giving money to like-minded candidates.
Call (933-1461) or email me (mbarroso@mindspring.com) if you can help us. Even a little bit will help in this close election.

I've known Tom Vanderbeck
I've known Tom Vanderbeck for several years and Chatham County, as well as the rest of us neighbors, is lucky he's in the fray. Progresive, fair, good sense of humor - the anti-Bunky.
I've known Tom since 1999
I've known Tom since 1999 and was thrilled to hear to that he was running for commissoner. He is just the kind of person that should be in a governing postition because he is intellegent and fair minded. A real asset to Chatham County.
